Group history
Firma Pogrzebowa Klepsydra was established in the transformation of the municipal company Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Usług Komunalnych in Łódź whose history dates back to the 1950s. It was initially developed by the family of Tomasz Salski, who took it over in the mid-1990s and has been involved in developing the company ever since. In late 2006 and early 2007, Tomasz Salski and his family took over Bongo, with Marek Cichewicz, Tomasz Salski’s cousin, becoming its president and co-owner. As such, it is a family company with tradition, focused on building value and introducing innovative solutions to the industry.
Both companies have grown steadily. In addition to providing comprehensive funeral services in Łódź, Firma Pogrzebowa Klepsydra managed all municipal cemeteries in the city between 1992 and 1998. In 2008, following market trends and in view of a significant increase in demand for cremation services in Poland, Klepsydra invested in the construction of its own crematorium in Łódź, which contributed to strengthening the company’s competitive position. The company Centrum Pogrzebowe sp. z o.o. was established in 2010 in connection with the implementation of an investment under the public-private partnership programme (PPP) in Podgórki Tynieckie in Kraków. This was the first advanced investment in the funeral industry carried out by a private company in Poland under PPP. A cemetery of 9 hectares will be built together with a funeral home and crematorium. The gross investment amounted to PLN 24.5 million.
Another important milestone was reached by Klepsydra with the establishment of the group, Grupa Klepsydra, in 2023, bringing together the funeral industry companies owned by Tomasz Salski and Marek Cichewicz. The company was floated on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW). It is the first company in the funeral industry to be listed on GPW.
The group continues to grow dynamically and plans to consolidate the fragmented funeral market in Poland.
